Sir, – The current fixation with the business-driven desire for students to favour the subjects of science and maths above other life skills, is regrettable.
Life should not be about making money alone. People also need to be able to relieve themselves of such stifling definitive knowledge and we should remember that it was a numbers-led society, pioneered by the same business community, that has destroyed much of the potential in Irish young people.
Besides, which would you rather hear on your deathbed, Fern Hill or the multiplication table? – Yours, etc,
