Sir, - Mr Lysaght, writing from sunny California (November 19th), says that car sharing is not as wonderful an idea as I make it out to be, and points out particularly that the idea of "flying columns" of private industry fine collectors is not a pretty one. Perhaps not, though there would be no difficulty collecting fines from cars that move as slowly as cars do in rush hour traffic in Dublin.

It is unfortunate that Mr Lysaght didn't enlighten us as to how car sharing works in his part of the world. I'm sure there are other ways of organising a system car share corridors, running (say) from Donnybrook and Rathmines to St Stephen's Green, for example. Are there any suggestions from car drivers in the city? - Yours, etc.,
