Bringing down legal costs

Madam,  – So the legal services ombudsman, when appointed, will not be able to introduce competition  or independent regulation into the industry (Home News, March 1st). This is because Minister for Justice, Dermot Ahern feels that the legal profession is having a hard time.

Surely this is the right time to bring down costs! As usual, no thought is given to those who continue to have to pay exorbitant legal costs as demonstrated in the press every day. It underlines once again the lack of a hard edge by this Government to tackle vested interests in the interests of the general public. – Yours, etc,
