Blocked cycle lanes

Sir, – As a cyclist, I am constantly frustrated and placed in danger by the number of cars parked on cycle lanes in Dublin.

On a recent short trip from Kimmage up Sundrive Road and along the canal, I counted 45 cars illegally parked in cycle lanes, the effect of which was to push me dangerously out into the car lane.

As I also drive a car and a motorcycle, I have noticed Garda cars cruising by illegally parked cars on cycle lanes and ignoring them. Why are these cars not being ticketed?

A well-publicised €80 fine and a couple of points on the licence might deter drivers from this habit, which is such a danger to cyclists. – Yours, etc,
