Sir, – Was there ever a more blatant example of tone deaf privilege and blithe indifference than the Lions rugby team’s skite to South Africa.
Of a SA population of 60 million, only 1 per cent have been vaccinated and there is a raging virulent third wave currently sweeping the country, with over 20,000 cases a day. Meanwhile the Springbok are in isolation while all the Lions party have been fully vaccinated.
The eight games throughout the country will invariably draw large crowds to the vicinity of the venues despite the pandemic. There really are more important things than sport but not it seems when big money is at stake for the rugby establishment. – Yours, etc,
