Madam, – In the light of the resignation of the Bishop of Limerick, Donal Murray, I wonder why the media has concentrated its attention on pressing for resignations.
The Catholic Church is a private organisation. Resignation is an internal matter for the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church institutionally and specific clergy as individuals cynically and knowingly perverted the course of justice to cover up the rape and abuse of children including interfering with Garda investigations. They must be prosecuted if this State is to come out of this scandal with any integrity.
To not prosecute is to perpetuate the privileged (state within a state) position that the Catholic Church clearly still holds in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
