An Post’s Che Guevara stamp

Sir, – I am appalled that An Post, with the approval of the Government, is putting the mass murderer Che Guevara on the standard €1 stamp. Until this repulsive issue is superseded, I will be putting two 50 cent stamps on my letters. I suggest that others do likewise. – Yours, etc,

CIARÁN CONNOLLY,

Raheny,

Dublin 5.

Sir, – The fact that “many Cuban-Americans have expressed outrage” (News, October 10th) because our Government has honoured one of the bravest and most iconic freedom fighters in modern times surely puts the seal of approval on the issue. The Cuban-American lobby in the US has together with its right-wing American political supporters done untold damage to the economy and people of Cuba through the spiteful and punitive US blockade that has been maintained against the small island for over half a decade.

Ireland has a right to honour Che, and we should all be proud of the fact that he had Irish ancestry. – Yours, etc,

GEAROID KILGALLEN,

Dún Laoghaire,

Co Dublin.
