Sir, – Readers may recall that ongoing joke from the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley about various tech innovators (usually male) wanting to "make the world a better place" with their ideas.
Having read your piece "Why Meghan Markle closing a car door nearly broke the internet on Meghan Markle" (September 27th), it occurred to me that the brightest and best of the digital world had yet again missed the mark.
Instead of developing self-driving cars all they need to do to bring about a more egalitarian world is invent a self-closing door. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I note that the Duchess of Sussex has been labelled “humble and down to earth” because she closed her car door herself rather than wait for an assistant to do it for her.
Perhaps she is preparing for the post-Brexit era, when the ready supply of EU citizens eager to take up low-paid unskilled manual work in the UK will have dried up. – Yours, etc,
