A right to view GAA matches

Sir, – With all due respect to the otherwise excellent GAA management team, I feel that the decision to hand exclusive rights for some championship matches to a subscription channel is a very poor one.

I believe president of the GAA Aogán Ó Fearghail is incorrect in asserting that people do not have an automatic right to see their counties play on free-to-air television. These are the people who develop teams and facilities throughout the country through very generous giving of time and endless fundraising. This is how supporters of the GAA have earned this right.

From my own discussions with GAA people this move is much loathed and hopefully will be abandoned at the earliest opportunity. – Is mise,
