Sir, – With reference to Tom Cooper’s letter published on May 7th, as lord mayor of Dublin I wrote to Aung San Suu Kyi on April 2nd, 2012, to congratulate her on her successful election campaign. I also took the opportunity to invite her to visit Dublin to formally sign the Roll of Freemen of the City, an honour conferred on her in March 2000 by the then lord mayor of Dublin, Mary Freehill, and Dublin City Council. – Yours, etc,
