Sir, – Reading Alison Healy’s article on niche book titles (An Irishwoman’s Diary, July 20th) took me back to my school holiday job in a London bookshop many decades ago. An American tourist came in looking for a recently published book called “The Birds of Britain”. Fine, I said, and conducted him to the natural history section of the shop. “I wasn’t thinking of the feathered kind,” he said, brusquely. – Yours, etc,
