Sir, – Your news report (Environment, May 13th) that swimming at Dún Laoghaire Baths will be banned this summer comes as a shock to many local residents.
Not only is the relatively new amenity now out of bounds for bathing, but it also raises concerns for the safety of those who swim regularly at nearby Sandycove Harbour and the Forty Foot.
Every effort needs to be made by the Environmental Protection Agency and local bodies to ensure the water quality in and around Scotsman Bay is consistently maintained to a safe standard for bathing.
Otherwise, the unthinkable could happen and a highly-valued, free amenity would be lost. – Yours, etc,
