Sir – I refer to Anne Marie Kennedy’s recent contribution “Wasted treasure”, Letters, February 23rd) in reference to horse manure. Back in the 1970s we had a vegetable plot in our garden and my dad would send me over the back fence with a bucket into the field to collect horse manure.

It was ideal for the spuds and even better on the rhubarb patch. He used to say: “We put horse manure on our rhubarb and some people put custard on theirs.” – Yours, etc,

EAMONN DONNELLY,

Clonskeagh,
