Sir, – Fair play to Pope Francis for his advocacy and support of older people on his visit to Canada (“The flesh is weak: Pope Francis uses his frailty to demand dignity in an ageing world”, News, August 2nd).
Not only does he make the point supremely well but shows he’s not lost his sense of humour. The pope said the aged often “end up being stored away in a nursing home like an overcoat that is hung up in the closet during the summer”.
Us old people haven’t gone away yet! – Yours, etc,
Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
