A participant in RTÉ’s Operation Transformation dieting programme who fell in a studio on her way to a televised weigh-in has told the High Court she suffered injuries that caused her to give up her business.

Georgina Brosnan (43), a mother of five from Rathass, Tralee, Co Kerry, is suing RTÉ and the Belfast-based company Green Inc Film and Television Ltd, producers of the Afternoon Show. She was on her way to an appearance on that show into when the incident occurred on February 27th, 2009.

She is claiming damages for injuries including depression and anxiety, as well as loss of earnings, as a result of the defendants’ negligence in failing to maintain a ramp covering electrical cables which she tripped over in the Donnybrook studio.

Ms Brosnan, who said she lost 25lbs during the seven-week weight loss programme, fractured her elbow as well as injuring her lower back. The case is before the president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns for assessment of damages only and resumes today.
