A woman was slashed in a knife and gun attack on a house on the outskirts of Belfast in an apparent feud between members of the Travelling community, police said today.

Officers were anxious to trace the movement of a gang whose car stopped outside a house on the Brian's Well Road in Dunmurry shortly before midnight last night.

One man left the car, entered the house and attacked the woman with a knife.

His victim's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

After the attacker left, a shot was fired through the living room window.

Detectives believe the incident might be the result of a feud between Travellers.

Police have appealed to anyone who was in the area at around 11.50pm to contact detectives at Lisburn 02892-665212 or the confidential Crimestoppers telephone line 0800-555111.
