Woman loses leg in Dart accident

A woman was seriously injured on Sunday night when she fell between the platform and a train at Tara Street Dart station.

She lost one of  her legs below the knee and is in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at St James' Hospital.

The incident happened when the woman was walking along the platform after getting off a northbound Dart. As the train was departing, she lost her footing and fell between the platform and the train.

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was brought to hospital.

Iarnród Éireann has launched an investigation into the incident. A spokesman described it as a "tragic accident"
