A woman who got rid of household junk by responding to a mobile phone number on a leaflet dropped through her letter-box found herself in court yesterday after some of the rubbish ended up on a public roadway.

Ms Anne Jackson, of Raheny, Dublin, was summonsed for littering after Fingal Council wardens found letters addressed to her in one of several sacks dumped on Kildonan Lane, Finglas, on April 24th last.

The case was dismissed after Ms Jackson told Dublin District Court she had paid a man called "Michael Green" £55 to take away old furniture and fittings. She got his number from a flyer delivered in her area.
