Councillor Jim Ruttle of Wicklow County Council has severed links with the Independent councillor and TD, Ms Mildred Fox, and accused her of neglecting west Wicklow.

Among the reasons he cited for the decision was the exclusion of the West Wicklow Independent Organisation from the negotiations for the formation of the Government.

In a statement, Mr Ruttle said Ms Fox had refused a request from the organisation's chairman and director of elections that he should represent West Wicklow interests during these discussions.

Ms Fox expressed regret at Mr Ruttle's decision. She maintained she had conducted all of her own negotiating during the formation of the Government and had represented the West Wicklow area "as vigorously as any other area of the country".
