The National Millennium Committee has allocated close on £340,000 to the Irish Wheelchair Association for a national mobility centre and the provision of recognition awards throughout the State.
The centre, which will be in Clane, Co Kildare, will receive £250,000. It will include a display area for equipment, offices, assessment rooms and a driving simulator, an independent living facility for long-term residents and a circular tarmacadam roadway for driver assessment and tuition.
The recognition awards, to mark the millennium and the IWA's 40th anniversary, will go to those with a disability or who have contributed to the disability movement on a voluntary basis.
