At the launch of a video, Profles of Faith, in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin yesterday the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Walton Empey, said there were no easy answers where faith was complex. "Frequently the church is speaking to a world that is gone," he said, and spoke of the need "to renew our whole vision of God".

There was a need to look at faith "at the raw edge", he said. The video features a Bishop (Right Rev James Mehaffey) journalist, a nurse, and a teacher talking candidly about the often difficult experience of being a believer.

The Bishop of Meath and Kildare, Most Rev Richard Clarke, said the video had been made to encourage people, inside and outside the Church, and to the edges of the Church, "to be open and honest about their faith and to ask questions that any person who thinks at all must ask."
