The American father embroiled in the Internet twins adoption case has been arrested on suspicion of molesting two teenage sisters who babysat for him, US police said today.

Mr Richard Allen, who with his wife Vickie claimed they originally bought the twin girls when they were six months old, was arrested yesterday at his home in Highland, California.

The arrest came just seven days after Mrs Judith Kilshaw, the British mother at the centre of the affair, was quizzed by detectives over the alleged theft of travellers' cheques.

Mr Allen (49) is currently being held on $100,000 bail at the West Valley Detention Centre.

He was arrested by officers from the Sheriff Department's Crimes Against Children unit after a 13-year-old girl alleged Mr Allen sexually molested her.

She told officers she was molested at his home in November last year as she babysat for the couple.

As a result of interviews, the girl's 14-year-old sister also said Mr Allen had molested her at his home when she babysat.

Mrs Judith Kilshaw (47) was questioned by North Wales police on February 21st about cheques used to fund the trip she and her husband Alan made to the US to collect the twins.

Mr and Mrs Kilshaw both visited Mold police station voluntarily last week to provide statements about Ms Tina Johnson, the American who brokered the twins deal.

Mrs Kilshaw was released on police bail without charge and a file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for advice, police said.

The two couples hit the headlines after it emerged the Allens were the would-be parents of the twins who were then allegedly adopted by the Kilshaws.
