Labour Party TD for Dublin South Central Mary Upton has decided not to seek re-election to the Dáil.
Ms Upton (64), who is party spokeswoman on Culture, Sport and Tourism, has served as a TD for 11 years.
She said she had advised party leader Eamon Gilmore of her decision and that she would continue to serve her constituency until the current Dáil is dissolved.
"It has been a great privilege and honour to serve the people of Dublin South Central as a Deputy for the past eleven years," she said.
"I have greatly enjoyed my time in the Dail and it has been a very rewarding experience working with other members of the Parliamentary Labour Party."
Ms Upton said she felt it was the right time for her to make way for others and that she believed Labour could return two deputies in her constituency in the next General Election.
She won her seat in a 1999 byelection, filling the vacancy created by the death of brother, Pat.
Mr Gilmore paid tribute to Ms Upton, who he described as an outstanding representative for the people of Dublin South Central since she was first elected.
"She was an able and articulate Deputy and a very effective spokesperson originally in agriculture and later in tourism, culture and sport who has made a great contribution to the Labour Party," he said.
