Manchester United are in talks with manager Alex Ferguson over extending his contract at the club, chief executive David Gill said today.

The 61-year-old Ferguson, who has been in charge at United since 1986, signed a new three-year deal in 2002 after changing his mind about retiring.

"We would like Sir Alex to continue and Sir Alex would like to continue so we are holding discussions and I'm sure they will come to a positive conclusion," Gill told Sky Sportstelevision.

The premiership champions also unveiled annual profits of £39.3 million sterling, up 22 per cent on last year.
