Irish pharmaceutical wholesaler United Drug said today that full-year profit rose 10 per cent after the purchase of companies in the UK and an expansion into Belgium.

Net income rose to €47.3 million ($70 million) in the year to the end of September 30th, a rise from the €42.9 million reported a year earlier.

The company said revenue has risen 7.5 per cent to €1.58 billion.

United Drug expanded outside of Ireland and the UK in April when it bought Belgium's Budelpack International BV.

"Strong performance from our well-managed Irish and UK- based businesses has been enhanced by strategically important acquisitions in high growth areas, enabling us to broaden our service offering,'' the company said in a statement this morning.
