Ulster have quashed speculation linking prop Robbie Kempson with a return to his native South Africa.

There have been suggestions that Sprinboik coach Rudolf Straeuli would guarantee Kempson a place in the national squad if he was to return home.

The Ulster Branch of the IRFU said today that "no formal or informal approach has been made by the South African Rugby Union to either the IRFU or the Ulster Branch with regard to Robbie Kempson."

Chief Executive Michael Reid said: "As far as we are concerned this is purely media speculation."

Kempson, who has been outstanding for the Irish province this season, is contracted to Ulster until June 2004 and has the option of a further year.
