An Iranian court has sentenced two Swedish men to three years in prison each after they were charged with photographing military installations, a diplomat said today.

"According to the lawyer, they have been sentenced to three years in prison each," Lena Kjellstrom, counsellor at the embassy in Tehran, told Reuters. She did not give the men's names.

A judicial official confirmed the sentence but did not give further details. The case was being heard in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

"The charges related to taking photographs of military installations and telephone pylons in Tehran and (the Gulf island of) Qeshm," Iran's judiciary website said.

The website claimed both men had admitted taking photographs of military installations.
