Gardaí were questioning two men last night in connection with Dublin's latest gangland shooting which has left one young man seriously ill in hospital.
The victim of the latest incident was spending Tuesday evening at his girlfriend's house at Gray Square, Pimlico, Dublin, when he went to answer the hall door at 9pm.
When he answered, the man on the doorstep opened fire on him.
The victim, a 22-year-old, sustained serious face, leg, arm and back injuries from two shots fired from a shotgun.
He was rushed by ambulance to St James's Hospital where he was in a critical but stable condition last night.
He is said to have sustained very serious injuries to his face after being hit with a spray of pellets across the cheek and nose from one of the shots.
The gunman, who was described as being over 6ft, ran to a nearby Opel Kadet car in which he drove himself from the scene. The vehicle was found in nearby Oscar Square and was undergoing a technical examination yesterday.
Two men were arrested by gardaí shortly after the shooting as they drove from the scene down Cork Street. Both are in their 20s and are from the locality.
They were both being held at Kevin Street Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. They were being questioned on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
They can be held without charge until about 10pm tomorrow. The shotgun used in the attack had not been found last night.
The injured man has had a number of recent addresses in Dublin 8 and is well known to gardaí in the city. He had recently been warned his life was in danger.
He has previously been jailed for a car-jacking attack in which a woman whose car was stolen was slashed in the neck.
