Two Germans hurt in an explosion outside a synagogue on the Tunisian island of Djerba earlier this month have died from their injuries, hospital sources said in Berlin today.

The injured were two of three people evacuated to Berlin for treatment after the April 11th blast. The death toll has now reached 18 people, 13 of them Germans.

Authorities in Germany and Tunisia believe the driver of a fuel truck that exploded outside the Ghirba synagogue set off the blast in a premeditated attack.

The synagogue was due to welcome Jews from around the world on an annual pilgrimage today, which marks the start of the high tourist season on the island.
