Two people have been killed on separate road crashes today

Two people have been killed on separate road crashes today. A woman was killed in two-car collision just outside Castlebar in Co Mayo.

The vehicles are understood to have crashed into each other shortly after 12 noon on the road between Newport and Castlebar.

Several other people were injured in the crash but their condition is not yet known.

Elsewhere a man(21) was killed died after the car he was travelling in left a motorway in Co Antrim.

Four other men, all in their 20s, were taken to hospital following the accident on the M2 near Templepatrick.

Police said only one car was involved in the incident, which happened shortly before 2.30am.

One of the men remains seriously ill but stable, while two are continuing to receive treatment. A fourth man has been released.
