A 22-YEAR-old unemployed apprentice plumber has been remanded in custody with consent to bail after he was charged at the weekend in connection with a €550,000 drugs seizure in Cork on Friday.
Russell McAdoo from Provence, Rochestown Road, Cork, was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court on Saturday night where he was charged with six offences relating to the seizure by members of Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad of 55kg (122lb) of cannabis grass on May 2nd.
Mr McAdoo was charged with possessing cannabis, possessing it for sale or supply and possessing a quantity of it worth more than €13,000 for sale or supply at both Maple Court, Mount Oval Estate, Rochestown, and at No 19 Maple Court, Mount Oval Estate, Rochestown.
Det Garda Neil Walsh of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court that Mr McAdoo replied “No comment” to each charge.
Insp Finbarr O’Sullivan said gardaí were consenting to bail once substantial sureties were obtained and certain conditions were imposed on Mr McAdoo including surrender of his passport and daily signing on.
Judge James McNulty remanded Mr McAdoo in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of €100 and two independent sureties of €25,000 with the two sureties to each lodge €15,000 with the court.
At the same special sitting but in a separate and unrelated case, a seven-months pregnant Venezuelan woman was remanded in custody after she was charged following a €210,000 drug seizure by gardaí and customs officers at Cork airport on Friday.
Leyra Navas Corrales, from Valencia in Venezuela, was charged with possessing cocaine, possessing cocaine for sale or supply and possessing more than €13,000 worth of cocaine for sale or supply following the seizure of three kilograms (6.6lb) of the drug by gardaí and customs officers in a joint operation.
