Fifty people have died after a head-on collision between two buses in northern Nigeria.

Fifty people have died after a head-on collision between two buses in northern Nigeria.

A small Toyota bus carrying around ten people and an inter-city bus carrying just over 40 crashed in the village of Durbunde last night.

Forty four people died on the spot, and ten were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Six of the injured died today. Most of the dead were members of a wedding party.

"It was a scene of real horror," a health worker said. "The wreckage was total".

Police were not available for comment.
