Blackburn midfielder David Thompson has been called into the England squad for the upcoming European 2004 qualifier with Slovakia.
He replaces Trevor Sinclair who was forced to pull out after sustaining an injury in West Ham's game with Birmingham on Saturday.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "David has been impressive over the last few weeks and I have seen him play on a couple of occasions.
"I am now looking forward to working with him for these two important games."
