Smartphone cameras may be basic, but there are plenty of apps you can get to transform your photos into something special. Take Luminance. As far as photo editors go, its pretty good value. The app allows you to apply a whole range of different filters to your photos, turning them into antique shots, crisp black and white photos, or just add a touch of something different, at the touch of a button. But it doesn’t limit you to just presets. If you’re a little more experienced, you can also tinker with the settings to

create the look you want for your images, adjusting things like white balance and tone curve. You can play around with vignetting, or adjust colours until you get the image to look exactly how you want. The major benefit to Luminance is that is makes everything simple, from importing photos to adding filters and adjusting settings. Then you can easily share them, whether on Facebook, Twitter or simply over e-mail. This is a small yet powerful app.
