TEAM Aer Lingus is seeking a deferral of today's meeting with its unions, writes Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent.

The two sides had arranged to meet this afternoon to discuss details of the proposed sale of TEAM to another aircraft maintenance company. They are now expected to meet on Thursday.

The request for a deferral was made yesterday afternoon and has renewed speculation that TEAM management is experiencing problems concluding a deal with a likely buyer. FSL Aerospace is still thought to be the "front runner" in talks, but B.F. Goodrich and Allied Signal are believed to be interested in acquiring TEAM.

With no substantive talks possible with the unions before Christmas, TEAM will not be able to meet its own deadline to conclude talks on outstanding industrial problems by the New Year.
