A Sydney court today condemned a former professional rugby league player as a serial rapist and sent him to jail for 22 years.

Anthony James Daley (27) was found guilty of raping seven women after attacking them outside their homes, in carparks or getting off public transport.

Daley did not hear his maximum sentence read out, having stormed out of the dock and back to the holding cell before it was handed down.

He told Justice Carolyn Simpson he did not recognise the court and had only pleaded guilty because he was told by his legal team he would not receive a fair trial.

"This court has destroyed my life," he shouted, vowing he would deal with the "rightful offender" in "my own way".

Justice Simpson said he preyed on lonely women at night between September 1998 and July 2000.
