A Spanish crewman on a British-registered fishing vessel was airlifted to hospital yesterday morning, following a call to the Irish Marine Emergency Service.

The crewman had been injured on the fishing vessel Meridian, about 100 miles due west of Shannon, when the service was called at 1 a.m. The Shannon helicopter airlifted the man, who arrived at Tralee General Hospital at 9.30 a.m.
