Several Kilkenny musicians have come together under name 'Elvis Mooncoin and the Shefflins' as tension builds for the cats' All Ireland Hurling Final clash against Tipperary on Sunday.
They have released a song called Watch Kilkenny Hurl which is set to the music of Galway Girl. Galway Girl was written by Steve Earle and recorded with Sharon Shannon in 2000 but later became a hit single for Munday and Shannon in a 2008 version.
Lyrics: Watch Kilkenny Hurl
Oh another year the Kilkenny boys,
All Ireland Final day,
There’s nothin only hurlin talk,
As the Cats come out to play,
And I tell you friend, coz i know its true,
What the black and amber boys can do,
You’ll be blown away, it’s a different world,
When you see the way Kilkenny hurl.
Oh we’re nearly there and in every town,
They are waitin’ for the day,
When the cats will claim another crown,
These Kilkenny boys can play,
And i’ll tell you friend there are few teams who,
Can light up Croke Park like Kilkenny do,
Watch the nimble cats as they twist and twirl,
It’s a joy to watch Kilkenny hurl.
When it’s over it sure will be known,
That Liam McCarthy’s coming home,
And I tell you now, oh they always do,
The Kilkenny boys always pull through,
No team compares, in the whole wide world,
It’s a joy to watch Kilkenny hurl.
Oh another year the Kilkenny boys,
All Ireland Final day,
There’s nothin only hurlin’ talk,
As the Cats come out to play,
And I tell you friend coz i know its true,
What the black and amber boys can do,
You’ll be blown away, it’s a different world,
When you see the way Kilkenny hurl.
