A youth has been given six years detention for a litany of robberies which defence counsel said involved "a bench of barristers, a battery of gardai and a tranche of charges".

Stephen Devine (19) of Harelawn Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 15 charges of robbery, attempted robbery and the possession of a knife on dates between February 1998 and January 1999. Sgt Fergal Foley said the offences occurred at various video shops around Dublin. The crimes involved small amounts of cash and video games.
