Sick man airlifted from vessel off Co Mayo

A 47 year-old man was airlifted form a Portuguese vessel by the Shannon Search and Rescue helicopter this morning.

A 47 year-old man was airlifted form a Portuguese vessel by the Shannon Search and Rescue helicopter this morning.

The man, believed to be Spanish, is thought to have suffered heart problems or had a stroke.

In an operation co-ordinated by Clyde Coast Guard, the Shannon-based Sikorski helicopter lifted the man from the vessel at around 7 o'clock 200 miles off the coast of Blacksod in Co Mayo.
