Ghosts, grandads and awful jokes; Michael Carroll is apparently a writer of fantasy fiction but this is more of a high class thriller, with sophisticated inter weaving of narrative lines and some beautifully timed scary moments. Dialogue, especially between teenagers, isn't his strong point though, and comes across as slightly artificial and stilted.
