Sentencing of the only person charged so far in relation to the death of model Katy French was adjourned today after the judge was told there were issues that need to be clarified.

In March this year Russell Memery (24) from Yellow Clay Manor, Navan, County Meath, pleaded guilty to a single charge of conspiring with persons not before the court to possess a controlled drug for the purpose of sale or supply.

He admitted committing the offence between 11pm on the 1st December 2007 and 3am on the 2nd December 2007 at the Statoil Service Station, Bracetown, Clonee, Co Meath. The drug was cocaine.

French (24) died on December 6th, 2007, after being in a coma for a number of days. A post mortem revealed she had suffered brain damage and traces of cocaine were found in her system.

When the case was called this morning State Prosecutor Karl Hanahoe told Judge Michael O’Shea “certain issues have arisen that need to be clarified”.

Judge O’Shea remanded Mr Memery on continuing bail until next Tuesday when the case will be mentioned again. It is expected that a date for sentencing will be agreed then.

Mr Memery is the only person to be prosecuted so far by the DPP in relation to the death.
