Tragedy struck a Donegal family for the second time in almost three years following the death of a young woman in a road traffic accident outside the town on Wednesday night.
The deceased was named locally as Róisín McNulty (20), from Porthall near Lifford.
Ms McNulty was travelling alone on the Lifford to St Johnston road when her vehicle left the road and struck a wall at Braide at about 11.50pm. There was no other vehicle involved in the accident.
Her brother Maurice was killed in a similar accident at Murlog 2½ years ago. Ms McNulty ran a fruit and vegetable stall business on the Border between Strabane and Lifford.
The road was sealed off for a time yesterday morning as gardaí awaited the arrival of accident investigators.
Ms McNulty was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was transferred to Letterkenny General Hospital, where a post-mortem was due to be carried out yesterday.
Ms McNulty is survived by her parents Noel and Rosemary, brothers Simon and Shane and sister Tracy, to whom the community has extended sympathy.
Her funeral takes place tomorrow morning in St Baithin's Church, St Johnston, and she will be buried afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
In a separate accident yesterday, a man in his 20s was fatally injured on the main Galway to Sligo road near Ballinacarrow on the N17 road south of Sligo town, when the car in which he was a passenger lost control and crashed into an oncoming truck.
The collision happened on a notorious bridge on the Sligo side of the village just before noon. The deceased is believed to be a non-national.
The driver of the car is in a critical but stable condition in Sligo General Hospital. The driver of the truck was not physically injured.
Traffic was disrupted for hours yesterday as gardaí had to close the main road for a time following the accident.
The latest accident brings to more than 270 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year.
