THE vice principal of one of Northern Ireland's top grammar schools has appeared in court charged with sex offences against boys.

Mr Lindsay Thompson Brown (56), a deputy head of Bangor Grammar School, Co Down, was charged with five counts of indecent assault over a 23 year period up to the summer of said.

The offences, to have involved boys between the ages of 11 and 14, are alleged to have taken place during Scripture Union outings to a centre on the Co Derry coast between July, 1968, and August, 1991.

Mr Brown, who is currently on leave of absence from the school, replied "yes" when asked at Coleraine Magistrates Court, Co Derry, if he understood the charges against him.
