Liam Sammon has been appointed new Galway senior football manager on a three-year term.

The Galway native succeeds Peter Ford whose three-year reign ended with the qualifier defeat to Meath.

Brian Talty, Tom McManus, Eoin O'Donnellan and Peter Warren had also been in contention for the position.

Sammon, a recently retired teacher and former Galway player, will see his appointment formally ratified at a county board meeting on Wednesday night.  He will then select his backroom team.
