ROUTINE admissions and non-emergency surgery at a major hospital affected by a salmonella outbreak have been deferred until Friday at the earliest. The Western Health Board says the situation on admissions and surgery at the Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar would be reviewed then.

Twenty salmonella cases have been confirmed at the 300-bed hospital and there are a further two suspect cases. Three of the confirmed cases remain as in-patients.
