A range of medicines and food supplements has been taken off the market by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

The authority ordered the removal of products made by Pan Pharmaceuticals after the firm's licence to manufacture was suspended in Australia.

Pan produced a variety of medicines and food supplements including cod liver oil tablets and treatments for women experiencing the menopause.

The FSAI said it was working in collaboration with the Irish Medicines Board on the recall of products.

Pan was recently suspended by the Australian regulatory authorities following audits at the company, which highlighted serious control deficiencies in the company's manufacturing process.

The FSAI has advised consumers not to use any of Pan Pharmaceuticals' products they may have already purchased.

FSAI deputy chief executive Mr Alan Reilly said some Pan products made for other companies under contract could be distributed in Ireland under other brand names and may not carry the Pan Pharmaceuticals Ltd name.

The authority has set up a helpline (1890-336677) for inquiries about the recall. Further information is also available on the FSAI's website www.fsai.ie. Listing of Food Supplements Manufactured by Pan Pharmaceuticals Ltd Subject to Withdrawal
