Racing abandoned at Fairyhouse

Racing at Fairyhouse has been abandoned due to high winds

Racing at Fairyhouse has been abandoned due to high winds.  The track had been hit by a deluge of rain and gale-force winds leaving it impossible for racing to continue.

As only one of the three Grade One races had been run, the remainder of the card is now due to take place on Wednesday.

The Joe Savage Maiden Hurdle will be divided to make a six-race card featuring the Ballymore Properties Hatton's Grace Hurdle and the Drinmore Novice Chase.

The decision was made by course stewards after the second race of the day's card was won by Jessica Harrington's Hide The Evidence.

Harrington appears to have another star on her hands as her charge dented Clopf's reputation in the Bar-One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

Edward O'Grady's Clopf was a smart bumper performer and had won his first two starts over timber but despite being sent off the 8-11 favourite, Harrington's five-year-old always appeared to have his measure.

Ridden by Andrew Leigh, the 10-1 chance travelled well throughout and pounced at the final flight, powering up the hill for a six-length victory.

Clopf just managed to hold off 40-1 chance Cleni Boy for second while Bobs Pride was fourth.

"He's come a long way since winning at Downpatrick. He keeps improving and improving," Harrington said afterwards. "We did a lot of work getting him settled and I thought that if he settled today he would run well.

"I don't know where he'll go next but I would imagine he will be going somewhere in March (the Cheltenham Festival)."

The winner was given a quote of 10-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle by both Boylesports and Sean Graham while Blue Square introduced him as their 8-1 second favourite.

Earlier Leigh was on board the other winner of the day, Mouse Morris's 12-1 shot Skibb. Ivan De Vonnas was second, followed by Carthalawn.
