A District Court judge yesterday directed that further medical and psychological assistance be provided to a teenager charged in connection with the stabbing of a garda in Westport, Co Mayo last Sunday morning.
The 16-year-old youth appeared before Judge Conal Gibbons at Castlebar District Court yesterday charged with assault causing harm to Garda Daryl Mullen (32).
Remanding the teenager in custody in St Patrick’s Institution with consent to bail, the judge recommended that he continue to receive psychological and medical attention while in custody.
The accused is to appear at Westport District Court on September 3rd.
The injured garda, a member of the drugs unit in Mayo, is reportedly in a stable condition in Mayo General Hospital with a stomach wound.
