Police in Northern Ireland have mounted a series of raids on properties in the border area as part of investigations into money laundering, it was revealed today.

The Financial Investigations Unit of the PSNI carried out 13 searches of properties over the last five days.

The searches were mounted in Bessbrook, Co Armagh, and Newry and Banbridge, Co Down.

A large amount of financial documentation, computers and £10,000 in cash were seized during the searches of both business and private property.

A PSNI spokeswoman said that during the search of a private house, a small quantity of Class A and Class C drugs were seized.

One man has been arrested and charged with possession of the drugs and is due to appeal in court in Newry on July 7.
